CESM Participates in Mining Day at the Capitol

On April 16th, representatives from the Center for Environmentally Sustainable Mining (CESM) showcased as an exhibitor at the 9th Annual Mining Day at the Capitol in Phoenix, AZ. This was a great opportunity for CESM team members to share the Center’s mission as well as engage with legislators, students and the public.
Jacob Galloway (PhD Student) who represented CESM at this event, said: "I believe sustainability should be a part of every conversation about mining, and being able to be a representative of that important cause at the capitol was a really special experience. I greatly enjoyed meeting folks from a wide variety of mining and government backgrounds and sharing with them my passion for land reclamation and mine site recovery, as they shared with me their perspectives on the industry."
Another CESM event representative, Seth Irwin (PhD student), said: "Our need for resources will ever be paramount and our need to move forward collectively, towards economic and environmental sustainability, is more important than ever. Not to mention, having the local schools filter through is so much fun. It leaves one with hope that maybe one or two of those students may catch that spark that leads them towards becoming the next step in generational progress for better and more sustainable mining practices. I look forward to being there next year!"
